Overview:

In today’s workplace, employment legislation affects several aspects of organizational activities including recruiting, hiring, compensation, retention and termination of employees. In this training, participants will develop foundational skills and knowledge of employment laws and regulations to effectively address labour related legal implications in the workplace.

Instructional Objectives:

The training program covers the following topics:

  • Statutory Rights (Employee Rights)
  • Hiring, Human Rights and Discrimination
  • Leaves of Absence
  • Employment Agreements
  • A Managers Right to Know
  • Wrongful Dismissal

Measuring Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the training, participants will understand:

  • The appropriate employment legislation and common law principles to ensure compliance and best practice in the workplace;
  • The prohibited grounds of discrimination under the Canadian Human Rights Act and discriminatory practice as it relates to hiring;
  • An employer’s duty to accommodate, evaluating undue hardship factors in the process;
  • What constitutes wrongful dismissal and the rights and responsibilities of an employer;

Program Delivery & Assessment Methods:

Pivot HR Services instructors continuously assess participants comprehension and ability to apply learning concepts through a combination of facilitation, interactive discussion, group work, case studies, and relevant real-world examples. Pre & Post learning self-evaluations are delivered to provide participants with a measure of their knowledge and skills gained from training. Following training, participants are encouraged to connect with instructors via phone and e-mail should they need assistance and have questions to follow.
